Israel's attacks on civilian areas in both Lebanon and Palestine have been sickening and shocking. The lack of response by the UK Government has amounted to an endorsement of Israeli war-crimes.

Initial reports suggest that the demonstration on Saturday is going to be huge. It needs to be. Blair needs to be sent a clear message from the people of Britain that once again this is not in our name.

The British Muslim Initiative (BMI) together with the Stop the War, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Palestine Solidarity Campaign are holding a national demonstration on Saturday 5th August. This event promises to be largest of its kind since the criminal Israeli war against the Palestinian and Lebanese people began.

BMI Chairman Muhammad Sawalha said, 'It is absolutely necessary that British Muslims turn out in droves to send a clear message to the Blair's government that its silence over Israeli war crimes in Palestine and Lebanon are inconsistent with British values and detrimental to its international standing.'

The organizers of the demonstration would be handing in a letter to Prime Minister Blair demanding: (a) An Unconditional and Immediate Ceasefire (b) That Israel Stops its Attacks on Lebanon and Gaza and (c) That the Prime Minister ends his support for Bush's wars.
