At a time when the entire country is shocked to learn that the much promoted Prevent strategy was in large a cover for the biggest domestic spying operation in Britain in modern times, the discredited Quilliam Foundation’s Ed Hussein declares that it is morally right for the government to spy on innocent people.
It is hardly surprising that a set-up which benefited from tax-payer’s funds to the tune of almost a million pounds should make some sort of effort to prop up its financiers . One only hopes that the few who remained believing that QF maintained any semblance of credibility, now see it for the shoddy outfit it really is.
Anas Altikriti, Spokesman for BMI commented: “Only the Quilliam Foundation and their spokesman could have come up with a statement that went against every shred of decency and every strand of rationale".
Altikriti added: “To state that it was morally right for the government to target the Muslim community and spy on innocent people solely because of their faith, gathering information about their private lives that have nothing to do whatsoever with acts of terror or extremism, is beyond reprehensible. It’s time the QF was seen for what it really is and what it’s really worth”.
The BMI demands a full disclosure of the activities that were sanctioned under the Prevent strategy, the information gathered and upon whose orders. The government should also make its position clear in respect to this scandal, and what steps and measures it intends to take in respect to the dossiers compiled and the information gathered, as well as in respect to seeing this operation brought to an immediate and unequivocal end.
